I started this as a joke with some of my friends on social media after having spent the better part of the the last year getting really familiar with Episcopal and other forms of high church liturgy, as well as taking organ lessons after having not really played much since college. I’ve been sunlighting as a substitute organist in the Portland area, although my day job is currently being a music teacher. My first post was of the Astleyan Kyrie, which was basically Never Gonna Give You Up written as a Kyrie. The hashtag I created is, #ShouldntBeAKyrie
I am not sure where I am going with this, but my proverbs for 2022 are: Embrace the Unforeseen, which is the name of the book my piano teacher (who taught me my first organ lesson), Dr. Dennis Plies, wrote; help is the sunny side of control (thank you, Ann Lamott); and lower my expectations without lowering my standards…because expectations are resentments waiting to happen (also stolen from Ann Lamott). We’ll see what happens!
